FAQs

Q: Who is eligible for the Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP)?
A: A family member who is enrolled in DEERS and may require special medical or emotional services based on chronic physical, intellectual or emotional needs.
Q: How do I enroll in the EFMP?
A: By calling one of two EFMP offices at Camp Pendleton: Mainside (760) 725-5363 or San Onofre (760) 763-0868. Families who are interested in EFMP support will be assigned a caseworker to assist with the enrollment process and all available community and installation resources to facilitate services and continuity of care for the family.
Q: What are some of the benefits of enrolling in the EFMP?
A: Up to 40 hours of respite care per month, support groups, parent workshops, assistance with finding local resources, as well as, TRICARE Extended Care Health Options (ECHO) enrollment assistance.
Q: What does the Extended Care Health Options (ECHO) program provide?
A: ECHO provides additional medical coverage from TRICARE (Conus only) such as special education, durable equipment and rehabilitation care. For more information, visit: TRICARE. To enroll in ECHO or be screened for eligibility, fax completed forms DD2792 and DD2792-1 (download from this website) to (866) 269-5758.
Q: Are families enrolled in the EFMP able to be stationed overseas?
A: Overseas assignments for all active duty personnel and family members require screening. If sufficient care is determined as not available overseas, EFMP will work to ensure a duty location where both career and Exceptional Family Member needs are met.
Q: Does the EFMP provide relocation support?
A: EFMP caseworkers at both the losing and gaining installation will assist in the transition of medical and educational care. Ask the EFMP office for a “PCS Needs Assessment Sheet” upon receipt of orders.
Q: How can EFMP help my Exceptional Family Member with the Individual Education Plan (IEP)?
A: Caseworkers will assist you with issues ranging from school services, access to therapies, related resources and provide workshops to help families learn to be their family member’s best advocate.
Q: I am part of the EFMP. Can I secure priority housing?
A: Priority housing for Marine Corps enrolled families is now determined by the HQMC EFMP office via the medical screening team.
